How are wear liner surfaces treated

Surface Treatment of Wear Liners

1. Sandblasting (Surface Roughening)
Sandblasting is a fundamental and critical step in preparing the initial surface of wear liners. Using appropriately sized emery or quartz sand propelled by a high-pressure air stream, this process precisely removes oxide layers, rust, and machining burrs. It creates a uniform, rough texture on the surface, significantly enhancing adhesion and providing an ideal substrate for subsequent coatings or plating, thereby effectively preventing the protective layer from peeling off later.
2. Chemical Passivation
Chemical passivation involves a controlled reaction between the wear liner surface and specific acidic or alkaline solutions to form a dense passivation film. This film offers excellent corrosion resistance, isolating the liner from external corrosive agents and slowing the rusting process. Precise control of solution concentration, temperature, and immersion time is essential to ensure a uniform, pore-free film, maximizing the service life of the wear liners in outdoor or harsh environments.

3. Wear-Resistant Coating Application
Applying wear-resistant coatings is a key method for enhancing wear liner performance. Thermal spraying technology is used to melt wear-resistant materials-such as ceramic particles or alloy powders-at high temperatures and spray them at high velocity onto the surface, creating a protective coating that combines hardness and toughness. This coating significantly improves wear resistance, making the liners suitable for high-friction applications like mining machinery and conveyor systems; it effectively reduces maintenance costs and extends the replacement cycle.
4. Polishing and Finishing
After the initial strengthening treatments, polishing and finishing optimize the surface precision and aesthetic quality of the wear liners. Fine grinding using polishing wheels or abrasive pastes removes minor imperfections and protrusions, ensuring the surface smoothness meets operational requirements. For components requiring sealing or precise fit, polishing reduces frictional resistance, thereby enhancing the stability and smoothness of equipment operation.
